Checklist for SCCM 1902 can be followed through this link
Let’s Begin the installation
As SCCM Version 1902 has recently released, for next couple of weeks it might not be visible under “Updates and Servicing”. You can still get this update using a PowerShell script provided by Microsoft which enables you to be on Fast Ring to get the updated right away.
You can download the script (in form of exe) from here.
Once download you need to extract it in a folder which contains EnableFastUpdateRing1902.ps1
Run this script on Site Server with Admin rights in PowerShell. Run the Command .\EnableFastupgradeRing1902.ps1 <SiteServerName>
Installation Process
Configuration Manager 1902 will be available now under Administration \ Overview \ Updates and Servicing. Right click and select Download to get the binaries downloaded.
Update will be download as cab file under following location (D:\Program Files\Microsoft Configuration Manager\EasySetupPayload\4588eaf0-7848-419e-9fad-9e9a25763f38) and can be verified using log file dmpdownloader.log
Once cab file is downloaded, the content will be extracted with the same folder name as of cab file.
Once content is extracted, it will also download the relevant redist files under redist folder.
Successful download of content will further proceed with deletion of 4588eaf0-7848-419e-9fad-9e9a25763f38.cab file
Successful download of content can also be verified through node Monitoring \ Updates and Servicing Status
Run Prerequisite Check
Configuration Manager 1902 status will now show as “Ready to Install”. Right click and select “Run Prerequisite Check”. Verify CMUpdate.log for process initiation and verify c:\ConfigMgrPrereq.log for success or failure.
Monitor the progress to check the status, as we got a warning, in production environment make sure to resolve all the warnings before proceeding with upgrade.
Install Update Pack
Right click “Configuration Manager 1902” and select “Install Update Pack” to initiate the In-console update progress.
Check the box “Ignore any prerequisite check warnings and install the update regardless of missing requirements” as we already did the Prerequisite check previously (Once again, we need to resolve this in actual production environment before continuing)
Next window will show list of available features which we can select, lets continue without selecting of this (we can select these features later once SCCM is upgraded)
Under “Client Update Options”, select “validate in pre-production collection”, as must need to verify the latest client version first on group of systems rather than in full production rollout.
Under “Completion” page, click on Close
Navigate to Monitoring \ Updates and Servicing Status to check the installation status.
Installation can be verified through cmupdate.log as well.
Once installation is done, and you try to open the SCCM console, this will ask you to update your console. Click ok to continue. New console version is 5.1902.1085.1600. which will uninstall old console version 5.1810.1075.2000
Downloading & installation of console can be verified through log file c:\ConfigMgrAdminUISetupVerbose.log
Once completed you can verify the site version and control version (by clicking on top left of the SCCM ribbon and selection option “About Configuration Manager”.
Client Update
This can be verified by navigating to Administration \ Site Configuration \ Sites, selecting the site on right Pane and selecting Hierarchy Settings on Ribbon, click on Client Upgrade tab.
Updated client version (5.00.8790.1007) is currently Pre-production client version which is targeted on collection “Client Pilot Collection” as we selected during installation Phase.
Source of this client version is created in StagingClient under Microsoft Configuration Manager Folder.
Promote Pre-production Client
If you want to promote the Pre-production client / staging client version to Production client version, you need to navigate to Monitoring \ Client Status \ Pre-production Client Deployment, right click and select Promote Pre-production Client
Good run down of the upgrade process.
